The Weather Report

Reporter Gabby here...

This is my dad, demonstrating just how brittle the tree's wood was.

First, it started raining cats and hamsters (well, not literally), and then my dad said for me to call mom to tell her that there was a storm. Outside, sometimes there was so much rain it looked like shimmery sheets of ice were being cast down from the sky. Then my mom said that she had an e-mail from the city saying TORNADO alert, of ALL things, in Brooklyn!!!! WOW! And it stormed REALLY bad, and I was sort of scared. Nothing happened to the tree in my front yard, but my, what damage around Clinton Street! Also, something really bad happened to some people. The damage left people without cars, tearing trees down, and the storm even left people homeless.

This is the remains of the first tree that snapped.

The damage was pretty bad here...imagine if your roof was torn
off or if your car was destroyed...

But, on the bright side, nobody I know was hurt in any way, so I have a happy way to end this blog post.

Reporter Gabby

Now the fact that three trees fell and blocked the whole of Clinton Street is starting to look up instead of down. Me, my friend Mireille, and her sister went tree climbing, and we had lots of fun! But we were not the only ones. Reporter Mom says she saw a large group of boys there before us, and just today I saw four girls playing up there.

Now that the shock of the tornado has passed, sort of, Brooklyn is now at peace....for now!

Just a few minutes ago, a HUGE HAIL storm took place!!!! I'm so... scared!! Even my mom has never seen anything like that!!!

Okay, from the beggining. First, my computer suddenly broke down. And I was like, what is going on? And then I heard small tapping noises on the window, and I told my mom, "Look. Look, It's ice. It's hail, mom."
"No, it's not, sweetie."
As the thunder got louder and the lightning got brighter,  the tapping noises got louder, until, from my dad, I heard, "Holy cow! It's HAIL!!! The size of MARBLES!!"
"Told you, mom."
My mom grabbed me and walked me to the middle of the room and hugged me tight until, at last, the tapping noises died down. Then I looked out the back window, and my eyes nearly fell out of my head! (Or so says dad.)
"WOW!!!" I said. It looked like it had SNOWED out there!! My dad brought in a sample of hail. WHOA!! They were huge!! At least as big as popcorn!!!

More on the latest BIG storm, soon to be on the page The Weather Report!

Bye for now,
Gabby
